Escape Routes and Evacuation Procedures

In every type of building, escape routes are needed to ensure safe evacuation of its occupants in case of fire.

An escape route is an alternative exit other than a main entrance that has been properly signed to assist escape in an emergency. Occupants of a building not only need to be aware of Escape Routes, but also need a defined instruction on how and when to evacuate, which includes the assembly points once out of the building. This is known as an Evacuation Procedure and goes hand in hand with determining Escape Routes.

A FFETA member fire company will assist you in determining an Escape Route, installing the correct signage and developing evacutation procedures.
