Fire Hose Reels and Fire Hydrants

The installation of Fire Hose Reels and Fire Hydrants is normally carried out on a new building or premises but there can be a legal demand for additional equipment if building extensions are made.

Under SANS 1475 Part 2 specifications, Hose Reels and Hydrants must be serviced at least once a year by a qualified technician and the equipment must be recorded in a Register by the responsible person. If in doubt, consult a FFETA member for advice on the legal requirements for the installation and maintenance of your equipmemt.

Fire Hose Reels are fixed units that give a continuous supply of water that can be used on Class A type fires.

Fire Hydrants (above ground hydrants) give high volumes of water that require fire hoses and nozzles. Unlike fire extinguishers and hose reels, which are first aid fire appliances, Fire Hydrants are used by professional fire fighters or factory fire teams for fighting larger fires.

A FFETA member is able to advise you on the use and maintenance of this type of equipment.
