Standards and other things
SANS 1475 PART 1: The printing of this was delayed due to errors in references to other standards and the last notification we received in respect of this was the following: “The document has not yet been published, but it is in the final stage of publication. It is expected to be published by no later than September 2025” Well it is September now, so we wait with bated breath!
SANS 11601 - Trolley Units: This issue is still being discussed, and a meeting is being set up with the Department of Employment and Labour to see how this can be rectified.
EXTINGUISHER MARKING: There is a move afoot to obtain a mandate from the Department of Employment and Labour, which will mean all extinguishers approved under SANS 810 should be scrapped. These extinguishers are all over 20 years old, and this would be phased in, so watch this space for further information.
LITHIUM ION FIRE EXTINGUISHERS: BSI have informed us that the 1910 permit for the Fire Block Lithium Ion extinguisher was cancelled on 27th July so just be aware that any manufactured after this date, cannot be serviced in terms of SANS 1475.
A reminder when purchasing any Lithium Ion extinguisher, request a copy of the 1910 permit as well as the manual which must accompany each one, to ensure you are being supplied with approved extinguishers.
