Lithium-Ion battery fires are on the increase and currently there are no approved extinguishers specifically for these so they cannot be serviced. Class D fire extinguishers will be effective on most flammable metals. Lithium-ion creates oxygen when ignited which makes it extremely difficult to extinguish. Protection from overheating seems to be the only solution at this stage. Li-Ion extinguishing mediums are non approved at this stage.
